You've often heard of designer shoes, but you're not going to find that here. Instead, you're looking at a designer pen whose hardware is designed by the accomplished pen designer David Broadwell. It features 3D art designs on the exposed accent rings, bands, and caps.
Crafted from a piece of historic corduroy road wood that was discovered in uptown Waterloo during the Light Rail Transit system consturction in 2016. It is believed that the corduroy road has been built between 1790 and 1816 and comprised of elm and cedar trees. Although no official identification has been made, the wood resembles cedar.
The wood has been air-dried and then stabilized; however, this may only slow down the decay process to which it was exposed for over 200 years.
A numbered certificate accompanies every pen made from the corduroy road wood. Please note, the number of writing instruments created is limited.
The wood is turned to a barrel shape with any and all imperfections kept in place. The wood was then finished with Pure Tung Oil and Carnauba-based Wax. The Tung Oil penetrates the wood to emphasize the grain and colour. The oil does not contain artificial thinners or cure-accelerants and is approved for food-contact items. The Carnauba-based wax forms a light 'skin' finish which serves as an additional layer of protection. The combination of the two finishes emphasize the beauty of the wood while preserving its natural feel.
Both the rollerball and fountain pen hardware components are cast, polished and plated with a durable two micron 22k gold plate and rhodium. The threads at the back of the pen allow you to attach the cap giving you extra length and balance.
The rollerball pen comes with a fine-tipped (0.6mm) ceramic roller refill from Schmidt. The rollerball tip ensures smooth and even lines to your hand-writing.
The fountain pen comes with an Iridium Point medium nib manufactured in Germany and takes an ink well or a prefilled cartridge. The pen is uninked and will ship with the ink well attachment only. The prefilled cartridges are susceptible to damage in cold temperatures and therefore are not shipped to protect your purchase.
To access the refill or the ink, simply unscrew the tip from the middle. In case of the rollerball pen, make sure you don't lose the spring that goes at the end of the refill.
Customization for this pen is available and recommended only for the sapwood section. Customization comes in the form of an inscription of up to 5 words that will be burnt onto the wood in one or two lines matching, as closely as possible, the font you provide. To have your pen customized, simply select 'Customize Body' in the customization option and upload an image with your text.
A truly unique creation! complementary velvet pouch is included with the purchase; the pen holder in the images is sold separately.
Note: the dimensions are shown as length of closed pen by height of pen at clip by largest diameter of the wooden body.
