Hand-crafted from a single piece of Red Mallee Burl - a tree native to Australia. The tree is short in stature and not available as lumber; but the tree does produce a lot burls. The burl has quite distinct sapwood and heartwood. The sapwood is yellowing to gray; whereas the heartwood is red in colour. The presence of sapwood in the same piece is quite rate and majority of the writing instruments will be done will be made from the heartwood.

The wood is turned to a barrel shape and finished with Pure Tung Oil and Carnauba-based Wax. The Tung Oil penetrates the wood to emphasize the grain and colour. The oil does not contain artificial thinners or cure-accelerants and is approved for food-contact items. The Carnauba-based wax forms a light 'skin' finish which serves as an additional layer of protection. The combination of the two finishes emphasize the beauty of the wood while preserving its natural feel.

The pen hardware has a chrome finish with intricate knurling designs on the centre band, acent ring, and twist finial. The pen is available in ballpoint format and takes on a standard Parker style refill.
