Beautifully crafted from Bog Oak from the Ukraine. Bog Oak is essentially an oak tree that has been buried in an acidic environment for over 5000 years. The acidic environment slowly pigments the entire tree black. This is a natural phenomenon and no stains, dyes, or artificial colours have been used. In addition, the wood comes with a dating certificate indicating the approximate age of the tree. The pen also features a wood centre band from Ash Burl from the Goderich, Ontario area. It contrasts the main wood with its irregular grain and yellowish colour.

The wood is turned to a barrel shape and finished with Pure Tung Oil and Carnauba-based Wax. The Tung Oil penetrates the wood to emphasize the grain and colour. The oil does not contain artificial thinners or cure-accelerants and is approved for food-contact items. The Carnauba-based wax forms a light 'skin' finish which serves as an additional layer of protection. The combination of the two finishes emphasize the beauty of the wood while preserving its natural feel.

The hardware has chrome finish. The writing instrument is available in three styles: a ballpoint pen, a pencils, and a ballpoint pen with a stylus tip.
- The ballpoint pen takes the standard Cross-style refill.
- The pencil takes a 0.7mm lead and has a built in eraser behind the end cap
- The ballpoint pen with the stylus tip takes the standard Cross-style refill and has a rubber end that you can use on any touch screen device.
